History

Mumbai is the most popular city in India and fourth most in the world. It is the capital of state Maharashtra, also considered as capital of India for business and entertainment.  A total population of more than 20 million, it holds the record of most populous urban city in the world. Mumbai in the past, known as Bombay was a strong base of Indian Independence Movement. It was renamed to Mumbai recently in 1996.

Popular Tourist Attractions

  • The Gateway of India monument built during British kingdom located in the South Mumbai overlooks the Arabian Sea. A Basalt arch structure, 85 feet high at the edge of Mumbai Harbor. It was a jetty for fishing community but later renovated by British as their landing place to arrive by boat. The place is also famous as Taj Mahal of Mumbai,being the most attractive place of the city.
  • Mumbai is the home for the Bollywood actors and actress. Film City at Goregaon East near Sanjay Gandhi National Park has recording studio, gardens, theaters, lake,  grounds etc. This place is the venue for most of the Bollywood film shootings.
  • The Haji Ali Dargah, being the most auspicious place in Mumbai, is one of the important identities of Mumbai. It is a paradigm of Indo-lslamic architecture, has the tomb of Sayed Peer Haji Ali Shah Bukhari.
  • One really cannot stop counting the number of tourist attractions in Mumbai, but to name few more includes Fashion street, Essel world, The Imperial Towers, Jehangir Art Gallery, University of Mumbai, Aksa Beach, chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus etc.

The Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the second largest airport in India.
